Our pledge to support Major Mick

Who is Major Mick?

In 2020, retired army veteran Major Mick Stanley, 80, better known as Major Mick, raised over £40,000 for his local hospice by rowing for 100 miles along Chichester Canal in a  home made boat which he spent three months building during lockdown.  The boat, named “Tintanic”, was built out of corrugated iron!

Major Mick isn’t stopping there, he’s back and going even bigger!  He is now on his second tin boat, named “Tintanic II”.  He is planning to undertake another 100-mile row, this time in various locations across the UK, in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Taking part in the 100 challenge

Aston Lark, who took ownership of Haven Knox-Johnston in January 2021, supports Alzheimer’s Research UK as one of their corporate charities.  To show our support we are holding a fundraiser to contribute to Major Mick’s overall fundraising target of £20,000. We’re encouraging staff to get involved by doing 100 of something in the month of June. That could be cycling 100 miles, running 100m every day, swimming 100m, or even reading 100 pages of their favourite book.

One of our crew members, based in the West Malling office, is raising money by baking 100 cupcakes over a 4 week duration!   Needless to say the funds are rising and the cupcakes are going down a treat!

Major Mick started his 100-mile journey on 28th May and will cover various locations around the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Derby and Bristol.

As you can see, we’ve even created our very own Major Mick avatar!

See below Major Mick’s locations and follow his journey.  To donate to Aston Lark’s campaign for Major Mick, please click below.
